Summer plans

Post by ian m »

Well the last weeks been a great reminder of why I love this hobby. Peeling the cover back in the morning and throwing them a few pellets before heading for work. Come home in the evening and do the same, very relaxing. The pond temp starting to increase already and the fish getting more active, covers back on in the evening though for a while longer

For us this summer we'll be moving a few fish on early in the year to give the rest a chance to grow, maybe some form of cover over the pond to keep those seagulls at bay, a sail or gazebbo, sort the garden out abd then sit back and enjoy. What have others got planned for there ponds?

I have been lifting the covers during the day, and replacing them for the night. In fact mine will stay on until the night time temps stabilise most likely end of April.
The koi have become more active over the last few weeks, I think it is down to the lengthing daylight more the rise in temps.
When the temp hits 12-13degC it is worth getting the microscope out and giving the Koi the once over after the Winter, at least at this temp you can treat them if you discover parasites.
I also will have some Koi to move on during this Summer, not too sure which ones yet? ;)
Nothing planned for the pond.

I don't know about summer plans but it looks like winter's back this morning with strong winds, sleet and snow. I don't think you'll be lifting the covers up today.
