Pipe cleaner!

Hi guys,

I've ordered my bits to start the pond off, but didn't order any pipe cleaner because coastal koi don't sell it. I phoned them up today to try and get them to add it on to my order thinking that they forgot to list it on the website. They don't stock it I was told and they don't use it either!!! Bit of a risk in my opinion. Was going to order it from Richdon but realized I'd have to pay £7 postage. So I went to a local plumbing centre. They told me to wipe it with a rag before hand. I couldn't beilive a plumbing centre saying its not important. Managed toget some from plumb centre. Does anyone have any views on using it or not using it?

Very important to use It, as I showed you the other week when solvent welding pipework the cleaner takes off any grease and dirt that is on the pipe from your hands, it prepares the pipe for the solvent glue.
Do not skimp on it. I would not use that plumbing centre again, cos they do not know what they are talking about.

I've always used either Meths or White spirit. Dave's correct that you need to de grease the surfaces before applying solvent.

Meths & White spirit tend to stay on the surfaces slightly longer than the proper (more expensive) cleaners, so wipe off with cleanex or similar and allow to dry.

Mark the pipe with a felt pen to help line up. Apply plenty of solvent to both surfaces being glued and when pushing together, give a little twist of about 1/4 turn to ensure solvent is evenly spread.
