Hi
I thought I would try and get some discussion going here so wondering what peoples thoughts are on the use of salt in their ponds /qts?

Hi,
I would only use salt as a dip in a bowl, or possibly in the QT,for gill and mild bacterial problems.
Although some people advocate using salt in the pond, I do not believe this to be good practice, as koi are fresh water fish and also you would have a job flushing it out of a pond. These are my feelings on the subject.
Dave.

In a conversation with a dealer regarding the mortality rate of koi when being brought over from Japan, he mentioned that quite a few breeders keep the koi that are due for export in quite a high level of salinity. When they reach the dealers you get an abrupt change in water especially salinity which increases stress then a further change when they are transported to the punters pond. What about maintaining a salted QT to assist your new additions?
