Adding clay

Post by ian m »

I've just started to add huminic clay to the pond. Label says add between 25-150 grams per 1000 gallons. Whats best to start with?? I think the covers are going to finally come off this week, spring is coming!!!!

Hi Ian,
I use clay at about 60grms / 1000gals, I don't measure it that accurately just put couple of scoops in the bucket of pond water.
Though I did weigh the scoop today after your post and it weighs 30grms.
I know of one person, who is very highly thought of in the Koi showing circles, that prior to a big show put too much clay in the pond, and had a hell of a job trying to catch his Koi
You will see the difference it makes in a couple of months.
Don't do it before the pond visit

Thanks Dave, already added the minimum 25 gm amount before reading your post so a bit cloudy, no doubt be clear before the weekend. Whats your routine for the clay and magic powder and super c? I've added the clay the day after the other two.

Have had covers off during the day this week. Believe it or not the temp went up by 1.1 degrees yesterday, off permanently at the weekend hopfully.

Ian,
I add the SuperC and Magic powder when I do my weekly filter maintenance, and then add clay the following day, normally takes two days to clear properly. I tend to do it at the beginning of the week, so that it is clear by the following weekend, to enjoy the Koi.

Dave.
