Hi gang,
Its with great sadness that i tell you about the loss of my Tancho kohaku. She must of jumped out of my growing on tank whilst i was topping the water up after a filter clean. I'd been cleaning my main pond filters at the same time and didn't miss her when i shut the lid ( i normally do a quick count). The fish was given a top 10 place in Koi Magazines Grow and Show comp this year and i had great hopes for her, also i picked her up the day after my Mums funeral and had to rush getting the tank all plumbed in and running which after mums death sort of kept me busy if you know what i mean. So because of the date etc i was a bit more emotionally attached to her than normally.
So please learn from my mistake and if you have similar circumstances, do a quick count before you put them to bed each night.

Sorry about your loss mate, always difficult when you lose a fish, especially when your emotionally tied to them. I never do a quick count, never thought about it, I will fro now on though.

Sorry to hear about your Tancho, it is not a nice experience to lose any Koi, no matter how you lose it, and especially one that means so much.
I lost a rather nice Sanke a couple of years back, that jumped out and I did not miss it for a couple of days, I had left the cover off after feeding. My fault, but it does not make it any easier.
I think it all comes with the territory, keeping any sort of animals, all we can do as owners is to provide the best care and enviroment for them, just in the knowledge that we have looked after them to the best of our ability.

Sorry to hear about the Tancho, I had one of the club's raffle koi jump out a couple of months ago after leaving the covers off for a few hours.

My problem is that the tank is always full to the top because of the way the filters are connected up. This makes it very easy for the fish to clear the sides when the covers are off.

When something like this happens it's nearly always your best or favourite fish which makes it doubly upsetting.
