Hi Gang,
Are we having a G and S in 2010??? If so, last year i was at Richdons when the EMKS were picking theirs. They had gone for sanke's and belive me there were some truly nice fish in the vat. When i did a bit of nosying about it turned out that they were not much dearer than our chags. if we gave Richard a heads up for his spring trip and a short list of 2 or 3 types maybe he could bag us a bargin? Food for thought, what do you all think?
ps In no way am i saying our Chags were inferior etc. Mitch

Mitch,
You are quite correct, they were not a lot dearer than the Chags that we had, But and it is a big But they bought at least 40 Koi, so there is a big difference in the total spend. We had a job to sell ours at the price that we charged for the Chagoi.
Go-sanke are expensive...
Dave.

Hi mate,
thought it might come down to the numbers! I'll have a think if there is a way to maybe generate some more interest from the members. Mmmm maybe a growing on service.

. Its a shame that we can't get more people on board.
All the best ...............Mitch

Hi,
It is all down to what, people would be prepared to pay for the Koi.
At the next meeting, try and canvas members if they would willing to pay £70-£80 (thats what it would most likely to be)for a tosai. I sure you will get plenty of takers. Not.
not trying to be negative, but I think we were here at the begining of last year.
Dave.

Hi Dave,
We were indeed in this situation at the beginning of the year. Whilst there was a lot of interest in having Showa, the interest waned somewhat when a price of about £75 was discussed.
We decided on ochiba shigure as a cheaper option but in the end had chagoi as there were no bulk supplies of ochiba available. I haven't heard of anyone who wasn't pleased with the chagoi which all seem to be doing well.
I've just about finished this month's newsletter but I'll put something in the January newsletter (not everyone who has a G&S koi attends the meetings). We can see what demand there is at the January meeting and then decide whether or not to proceed with a G&S competition in 2010.
With the Kohaku G&S champion coming from an unheated pond this may encourage one or two to enter who previously thought they had no chance of winning because their pond wasn't heated. Also the worry about not being drawn as one of the first picks should have been removed. All the winning koi were from the lower half of the draw, having first pick is no guarantee you're going to win and this is especially true with showa.
Anyway it sounds as though we may already have three people (Mitch, you and me) interested so we only need another dozen or so to make it worthwhile,
Colin

Morning gang,
Fully appriciate what your saying Colin and Dave, last night in bed(sad i know) i thought of maybe having a joint grow and show with another club. There would be a lot of things to sort out but could be great fun and financially viable. I almost emailed Mushio to see what he thought!
Just think, us men of the valleys against them softy middle englanders.???
Just a thought ................ Tancho Mitch.

Hi Mitch,
Like your idea of having a combined G&S with another club but I'm afraid it would be a nightmare to set up. Last summer I ended up picking out a total of 6 Chagoi because entrants couldn't make it on time.
Maybe if we had koi from the same breeder as the other club (I presume you are talking about the EMKC) the results could be compared.
The other option would be for you to join the EMKC and take part in their G&S also, although looking at some of their previous results I fear you may be out of your depth there,
Colin

Hi Mitch,
I take the last comment back. I see this year the EMKC only had 13 of the 42 entries returned for judging which makes our 12 from 16 look very good,

Hi Colin,
No offence taken, i think in any fair comp given a sporting chance i or the club could compete against any fellow individual or koi club. Going back to the point, i know it would be difficult to organise and they would have to be the same breeder/fish but by combining with another club we wouldn't need to involve everybody in our club to get decent fish. Hey, who knows, maybe when we discuss it at the meeting, all the new members might want one and we could do it anyway!!
All the best .................tanglow Mitch.
