Hi there

Post by robynfali »

A new visitor to your site, come across it by complete accident.

I have a small pond in the back garden, and I am after some baby koi to put in it, when the weather turns a bit warmer.

Does anyone know of any good stockists in the Anglesey area where i can buy some babies, literally small ones maybe 2" in size, I am not after anything overly special, just some that look nice from a source that people have used and had no problems with.

Hi Robynfali,
Welcome to the forum,
It is always a bit of a gamble buying small koi.
The reason being that they are quite frail when small, and really at that size should go into a heated growing on tank.
Also do not forget that small koi grow into big koi, and as you say that you have a small pond, how many gallons. Why not come over sometime and have chat and a cuppa to discus what your ideas and plans are.
We are not far up the coast.
regards
Dave.

Hi mate, I might do that.

I had a pond before, which had a few koi in, YES I remember now that they did grow in tanks first

When I moved, i had to hand them to someone else as the place I moved to had no room for a pond. I passed them on when they had grown from babies, up to between 12 and 16" in length.

My pond is only small about 2m by 2m by 1m which is a bit bigger than the old one, reason being is I have back problems and thats all I could manage to dig, and funding wasnt much help either.....

So, looks like a tank is a must, I don't mind, i do enjoy a tank inside.

Whereabouts up the coast are ya mate?

Hi, Welcome to the NWKS Forum.

LIke Dave says, come over and meet a couple of members and see their pond set ups.

One or two guys in NWKS breed Koi. I've had Koi from themselves as their good quality, well quarantined and cheap !!
I only know of one dealer of Koi in Anglesey/Caernarfon area, and I'm not impressed :o
Our next club meeting is 5th Feb over near St Asaph. PM Dave or I if you need info.

Regards
Martin

sorry i could not make it over, maybe some other time.

I have now got a small tank in the house for babies, still don't have anywhere yet to get them from.

My only problem is, with working part time, I cannot afford the "true" ornamental fish that most of you may have, its why I look for babies, £2 or £3 a time and around 1" or 2" in size.

Hi,
The next meeting is next Tuesday 12th Feb.
Our secretary breeds koi so he might have some babies for sale from last years breeding. see Backyard koi breeding on the articles section on the Main website. See if you can get over.
