Hi guys, I think I can assume nobody is off to the show in Holland this weekend.

If you havn't been before I can recommend it as a great weekend away. We've been a few times now but unfortunately we aren't going this year. It's a bit like the National but of course you need to do a bit more travelling to get there. If not this year then you might want to consider it next year either on your own or as a group. We usually go in a small group which is fun as again like the National there is a dinner/dance in the evening.

The show itself is held in the grounds of a castle with lots of gardens to explore when you aren't looking at the vats of koi or koi stalls. And the moat surrounding the castle will be the place where you will see your first koi of the show as it is full of them! Last time I was there there was talk of locals taking the koi to stock up their own ponds!

Different people have there own means and ways of getting to the show but we always take the same route. That is, fly out of Manchester into Dusseldorf, hire a car and drive to the hotel in Venlo. Easy! Then you are free to drive around Holland or cross the border into Germany. If you go in couples or a group you can car share to the airport, or hire a transit, then again go halves for the hire car/s. Pre booked hotel means you all stay together as well. But be sure to get the hotel in Venlo where all the koi folk are and where the dinner/dance will be. Plus you will be able to sit up into the wee hours talking koi with guys from all around the world.

If you make prior contact with a local koi club you might be able to arrange pond visits as we were able to. These are brilliant as you get to see loads of new ponds, get new ideas, and see how guys run their systems. We saw lots of veggie filters and lots of bore holes in gardens where the guys source their own water! Again a meal out with the club can be arranged.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone was going this year? If not maybe think about next year and maybe consider a club visit? I wrote about some of my previous visits in NI mag if you have any back issues and you could also check out the show website

Hi Garry,
I'm not able to make this wekeend, although it sounds great.

I suggest we raise it at a club meeting to see if there are any members interested in making th trip in 09.

Keep the ideas coming.

Regards
Martin

Hi Martin, yes it might be worth raising it at a meeting. An estimated cost of the trip could be put together too.
I'm guessing the club already arranges a trip to the National each year? If not this could be discussed too.
