Japan 2011 day 2

Post by ian m »

Day two started with a trip high into the mountains, there is still a considerable amount of snow even in Nagaoka so the mountains are a wonderous site with snow lining all the roads. The breeder we visited there was Ofuchi who was busy clearing snow with heavy earth moving gear. A number of boxes of koi were purchased there including ochiba, sorogoi, aka matsuba as well as tancho showa and sanke.

Next stop was Otsuka who had pond after pond of all sorts of varieties, literally 100’s of thousands of fish. Nothing large was purchased here but a numbers of boxes of small fish were ordered by Rich so he has small fish available too.

Hiroi was the next stop of the day, he only had nisai and sansai available, two fish were purchased here, a modern goshiki by a hobbyist and the other a showa for Richdon’s stock, I’m sure that won’t be around for long. Bearing in mind the snow is on the ground and its approx. 6 degrees outside these fish houses get very very hot and t shirts are the order of the day.

Final stop of the day was to Dainichi for a brief look see at his nisai and sansai houses. These contain koi that are absolutely unbelieveable in all aspects, all gosanke varieties up to a meter in length.

Hi Ian, just found your diaries. Fantastic mate please keep them up. Would love to be over there with you, by the way do you think the 90cm tancho would fit in your suitcase on the way home! Lol all the best, Mitch.

Some nice stuff on it way back to North Wales and I am sure you are not finished yet LOL.
