Today was selection of tosai at Dainichi amongst other things, one of the things I’ve been looking forward to the most, a pond had been prepared for us containing 211 tosai. The pond was netted by the younger Dainichi brother and his assistant, he even nearly fell into the pond when the net pole snapped in half. As the net was drawn in and the fish started to surface some stunners appeared. Rich spent a huge amount of time selecting through all of the fish, before ending up with a final 15 that he is hoping to grow on for customers until the Autumn.
The netting begins
Dainichi with broken seine net pole, a piece in each hand .
Koi in net
Why did I let him have them.
Also we visited the shrine high in the mountains, with the famous shrine entrance.

Ian,
Thanks for posting!!
Ahh!! the Dainichi tosai house that brings back some memories, I see that the pond is the sixth from the entrance. Rich must be going up the pecking order, we only netted the first 2 ponds when I was there, the better and the most expensive ones are always kept towards this end.
The 'Tori Gate' is quite impressive, I think it must the most photographed view in Niigata?
Did you walk up all the steps to the Shrine or did you take the lift?
Dave.

Hi Ian,
Excellent diary of your trip to Japan. With all the koi you are buying remember to leave space for the club's G&S koi,
Colin

Colin,
Still plenty of room for the grow and show, visited Sekiguchi earlier today, still haven't got a clue how to chose a decent showa!!! Rich showed the Sekiguchi brother the photo's of the G&S, he was impressed with the growth they have put on. I think they'll be around 30cm when we see them next weekend.
