NWKS 2016 -17 G&S competition

Post by roselanekoi »

This year we are having sanke as our G&S variety. The koi were bred in Japan by Shintaro and were supplied by Quality Nishikigoi of Warrington. This is the third year that Tim has supplied the G&S koi and he has once again managed to get us an excellent price for such high quality tosai.

Shintaro is renowned for his high quality koi and large tosai (one year old koi) and, as you can see from the attached photos, we weren't disappointed. A total of 12 members entered the competition this year having a total of 16 koi. Included in this were two koi given as raffle prizes. When the draw was made for the selection order our Chairman managed to pick himself the first two picks, I on the other hand was drawn last for one of my two koi. This wasn't as bad as it might seem though as we had 25 koi available to select our 16 koi from.

The koi will now be grown on for the next 18 months and then photographed for judging. Our judge this time is going to be the man who bred the koi, Shintaro himself.

The koi were in the 9 - 12 inch size range and photos of the koi are attached below. Which one would you have picked?

Everyone taking part was very pleased with their koi, hopefully the two entrants that couldn't make it on Sunday were also pleased with the koi we selected for them. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing how my two koi develop over the next 18 months.

Once again a big thank you to Quality Nishikigoi for making Sunday's event so successful. If you haven't been there, Quality Nishikigoi is well worth a visit with a large range of koi on sale at prices to suit all pockets. Tim can also get you that special koi when he visits Japan in the spring or autumn.

Who were the friendly Japanese couple who wandered in and out of the venue and waved us off when we left Colin?
They seemed nice people, are they some connection through Tim to the Japanese Koi world?

Here are the photos of the koi submitted for Judging. 10 photos, 3 more still swimming, and only 3 fatalities out of the original 16 koi. This must be a record, anyway here are the photos that Majdi will be taking to Japan for Judging by Shintaro.

Well did you pick the winner? The koi were judged by the breeder Shintaro and the results are as follows:

1st koi no 3 owned by Chris Jones
2nd koi no 7 owned by Peter Sellers
3rd koi no 10 owned by Paul Evans
