North Wales Koi Society Grow and Show 2008

Dear NWKS,

grow-and-show-logo.jpg

The response to the proposed Grow & Show competition this year has been fantastic. So far 15 Koi have been ordered by NWKS members, and a few more are expected.

They will be from Richdon Koi’s Exclusive Breeder which will be shipped from Japan this April, and complete a full quarantine at Richdon Koi premises.

If you’re not on the list, and want to compete, let Colin Jones and myself know straight away. Entry fees will be collected at the March 4th NWKS meeting, Farmers Arms.

The final preparations are still under way but I can tell you that following the wishes of the majority of members, we’re going with Kohaku, these Koi will be from the Exclusive Breeder used by Richdon Koi

Here is the list so far:

  • Mal and Helen Jones
  • Colin Owen
  • Colin Jones
  • Dave S Wilson (wants 2)
  • Ken Williams
  • Danny West
  • Martin Rocliffe
  • Graham and Trish Giles (wants 2)
  • Allan & Kath Lamb
  • Dave Evans
  • Dave Wilson
  • Ian Mooney
  • Nigel and Maureen Sambrook

The two possible dates for choosing your koi and then taking it away to its new home (and purpose built 6,000 gallon, 25° Growing on tank?) are:

Saturday 24th May
or
Sunday 22nd June

I will let you all know ASAP which day we pick, but pencil them in your diaries now! The selection will either be at Colin Jones’s or my house.

Before the pick-up day, everyone will have a number randomly selected from a hat. Ticket Number 1 will get first choice (say at 11:00am) Ticket 2 will get second choice at 11:10am, and so on. I’m trying to arrange that there are a couple of extra Kohaku so that the last NWKS member to select has 2-3 Koi to choose from. Each Koi will be photographed and carefully measured before being bagged up and taken home.

The completion will be Judged by Greg Sutton (experienced Koi keeper, Richdon Bulletin Board moderator, and hopes one day join the JSC training program as a BKKS Judge). Results will be announced in 2009.

Two prizes will be awarded:

  • Best Growth achieved.
  • Best Quality Koi.

If you have any questions, let me know. In the meantime, Happy Growing!!
